What causes freewheel to wobble?
It’s not uncommon for one side of the hub to be higher than the other. The unevenness causes the freewheel to move up and down. If the thread on the hub is at an angle, the freewheel will be tilted and not perfectly parallel to the flanges (ends) of the hub. The result is a wobbling freewheel.
Why does my back wheel wobble on my bike?
Bicycle wheels support your weight by placing a high amount of tension on the spokes that connect the rim to the wheel hub. Riding your bike regularly, over rough terrain or having an accident can cause the spokes to become tensioned unevenly, thus making the wheel wobble while riding.
Is it normal for freewheel to wobble?
Almost ALL freewheels wobble, and it’s seldom the cause of any problem.
Should my rear cassette wobble?
Some cassette wobbling is expected due to hub imperfections during manufacturing. If there are no structural problems with the bike, the wobbling isn’t a concern.
Why is my wheel wobbling MTB?
If the wheel feels like it is moving (wobbling) on the axle (other that rotating), the hub bearings are damaged or need adjusting. Your local bike repair store can tell you if they can repair the hub, or if a new wheel is required.
Is it safe to ride a bike with a wobbly wheel?
It depends on the reason for them not being true. A lack of equal tension in the spokes could mean weakness in one (or more) of them – and broken spokes are not a good thing to ignore. You can survive one or maybe two for a short while, but eventually the rim could be in danger of collapsing.
Why does my front wheel wobble on my bike?
“Shimmy is caused by the gyroscopic force of the front wheel whose tilt is roughly at right angles to the steering axis, making the wheel steer to the left when it leans to the left. This steering action twists the top tube and down tube, storing energy that both limits travel and causes a return swing.
Why does my MTB cassette wobble?
The Cassette Isn’t Fully Tightened If the cassette hasn’t been fully tightened, it may unscrew and start wobbling. What is this? To diagnose a loose cassette, remove the rear wheel and try to slide the cassette back and forth. If it moves even a little bit, it’s not tight enough.
