What does a healing Plastibell circumcision look like?
It can look a little like a skinned knee while it is healing. It may also appear somewhat swollen. The Plastibell ring will fall off by itself. When this happens can vary from 1 to 8 days.
What to expect when Plastibell falls off?
After the Plastibell has fallen off, apply petroleum jelly to the entire tip of penis. Gently retract the remaining skin and put petroleum jelly into the groove just beneath the tip. You may need to use a Q-tip to do this. Petroleum jelly will help your child’s penis heal properly.
How much swelling is normal after Plastibell circumcision?
There may be some swelling that will go away in about 4 days. There may be bruising in the area.

What does infection look like after circumcision?
Your baby does not have a wet diaper within 12 hours after the circumcision. You find a spot of bleeding larger than a 5-centimetre circle from the incision. Your baby has signs of infection. Signs may include severe swelling; redness; a red streak on the shaft of the penis; or a thick, yellow discharge.
How long after circumcision can you bathe baby?
It’s best to avoid full-body bathing until the second day after surgery, but sponge bathing is fine. After the second day, you can bathe your baby or toddler as normal; with newborns, you should wait until the umbilical cord has fallen off, at about two weeks. Avoid very warm water.
