Are ACAN hard to keep?
Acan coral is generally hardy and easy to care for, making it a suitable species for intermediate aquarists. (Beginners may want to hold off on rushing to pick up a frag – and we’ll get to the why in a minute) The amazing color varieties make this LPS a show stopper – even for advanced hobbyists with mature tanks.
How fast do Acans grow?
My rainbow acan has 3 polyps and they are quite healthy with good extensions. I glued the frag plug to a rubble . The ones that are growing fast started growing new heads around 1.5 to 2 months.
Can Acans touch other Acans?

Can Acans be placed next to each other?
Different aussie acans can, for sure, yes. Lordhowensis wont sting each other, neither will hillae, neither will bowerbanki, but put the different aussie acans together and they will. Ex: acan lord next to an acan bowerbanki. As long as you keep the same type of acan together you should be fine.
Do Acans like high flow?
Acan Coral prefer a low to medium flow. This allows food to flow to the coral as well as remove mucus and bad nutrients from the coral. Too much flow can cause the large, fleshy polyps of the Acan Coral to either stay retracted, be ripped off the skeleton.
Do Acans need to be fed?
Feeding Acans Acans contain zooxanthellae, this allows the acans to gain some nutrition and growth through photosynthesis from the lights in your tank but you will see much better growth of your coral if you give regular feeding.
How long does it take to grow an ACAN?
From my experience one of the biggest myths about acan lordhowensis is that they grow fast. Don’t get me wrong, baby heads typically form within the first 2-3 months, but it can take up to a year+ for them to become full sized polyps…
How big do ACAN corals get?
A single acan coral polyp typically stays under an inch in diameter when fully grown, but larger species may be closer to two inches. The different species of acan corals can be difficult to tell apart from each other, though their requirements in reef aquariums are all relatively similar.
Can ACAN Lords touch?
Micromussa Lordhowensis (the new name for Acan Lords since these super smart science guys are also very indecisive) are one of the least aggressive corals you can have in your tank. They can touch each other and don’t have feeler tentacles to attack others.
Can Acans touch Bowerbanki?
Agreed with above. Low flow and low light, just like any other acan. Beware however, does not play well with acans. Don’t let them touch each other.
What eats ACAN coral?
Active Member. Peppermint shrimp (and others) are known to eat corals when their primary food source is depleted. If you can’t catch them and get them out, then you could try overfeeding a little.
How much par is needed for Acans?
Lighting & Flow Requirements: Aussie Hulk Acan Lord Coral requires moderate water flow and low to moderate lighting (PAR 120-250). T5’s, Metal Halides, or LED’s can all grow Acan Lord Corals when the proper PAR levels are provided. We recommend a 14-20K color spectrum for best coloration.
