Can you still visit Jodrell Bank?
After years of planning, our First Light Pavilion will open to the public on 4th June 2022. Once open, visitors will be able to experience a new permanent exhibition, immersive planetarium shows, and a new cafe and gallery space. For now, we continue to blow minds at weekends only.
Can you walk near Jodrell Bank?
The Jodrell Bank telescope is an iconic structure located near Holmes Chapel in Cheshire. As well as a fascinating discovery centre there is also a pretty 35 acre arboretum with lovely walking trails.
Is Jodrell Bank indoors?
Yes, its great for rainy days. There are indoor exhibition and display areas, along with a cafe (with great views of the telescope) and gift shop. There are also sheltered picnic areas in the gardens. There are plenty of talks, events and science shows which also take place indoors.
Why is it called Jodrell Bank?
It is named from a nearby rise in the ground, Jodrell Bank, which was named after William Jauderell, whose descendants lived at the mansion that is now Terra Nova School. The site was extended in 1952 by the purchase of a farm from George Massey on which the Lovell Telescope was built.
Can you take a dog to Jodrell Bank?
Can we bring our dog for a walk? Only assistance dogs are allowed entry to the Discovery Centre and grounds (including the Cafe and Cafe Terrace).
