How did A*STAR start?
When the core reaches a temperature of about 2,000 degrees Kelvin, the molecules of hydrogen gas break apart into hydrogen atoms. Eventually the core reaches a temperature of 10,000 degrees Kelvin, and it begins to look like a star when fusion reactions begin.
WHY WAS A*STAR established?
The origins of A*STAR can be traced to the Science Council of Singapore, which was officially established on 30 October 1967 to develop the nation’s scientific and technological capabilities.
HOW DOES A * search work?
A* is an informed search algorithm, or a best-first search, meaning that it is formulated in terms of weighted graphs: starting from a specific starting node of a graph, it aims to find a path to the given goal node having the smallest cost (least distance travelled, shortest time, etc.).

Where is A* search used?
A* is often used for the common pathfinding problem in applications such as video games, but was originally designed as a general graph traversal algorithm. It finds applications in diverse problems, including the problem of parsing using stochastic grammars in NLP.
WHY A * is admissible?
A* is admissible if it uses an admissible heuristic, and h(goal) = 0. (h(n) is smaller than h*(n)), then A* is guaranteed to find an optimal solution. i.e., f(n) is non-decreasing along any path. Theorem: If h(n) is consistent, f along any path is non-decreasing.

A * algorithm is a searching algorithm that searches for the shortest path between the initial and the final state. It is used in various applications, such as maps. In maps the A* algorithm is used to calculate the shortest distance between the source (initial state) and the destination (final state).
