Is the Kepler Track worth it?
The Kepler Track truly is one of the Great Walks in New Zealand and is one of our favourites. This 60 km hike has the most stunning ridge lines we’ve ever hiked as well as views that will blow you away throughout the entire hike.
How hard is the Kepler Track?
The Kepler Track is moderately difficult. Although the track is well-maintained there are some steep sections as well as a trail on a ridgeline.
Can you walk part of the Kepler Track?
To walk the full Kepler Track takes at least three days to complete, but sections of this picturesque track can be experienced in just one day. Day walk options exist for everyone, from those wanting a leisurely explore in the forest, to full days accessing the rugged alpine area.

Track description The track begins with a stroll through the beech forest along the shore of Lake Te Anau, the largest body of fresh water in Australasia, to Brod Bay.
Is Kepler track a loop?
The Kepler Track is a loop track which can be walked in either direction. The track is well-marked and signposted, but some sections are steep and rough and may be muddy and slippery. Due to the elevated sections of the walk, poor weather conditions can make this walk challenging, even in the Great Walks season.
Can you walk the Kepler Track in winter?
During the winter season (May to October), the Kepler Track remains open but with reduced facilities. Weather, track and avalanche conditions need to be carefully considered, so it is important to contact the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre before departure to check the current situation.

Can you camp on the Kepler Track?
So, in regards to the Kepler Track, you can camp near the Luxmore Hut, as long as you are 500 metres from the track. This applies to the main track AND the Luxmore Caves track. So, if you have your own alpine tent, you can hike the entire Kepler Track for $20 (kiwis) or $40 (foreigners).
Is there phone reception on the Kepler Track?
Kepler Track – There is mobile coverage at the Kepler Track carpark at the control gates, however none at Rainbow Reach.
