AP Homework help. I need to write a 500 word essay about what I DIDN’T do this summer!?
I’m suppose to write a 500 word essay of what I DIDN’T do this summer and I don’t really know where to start. I just have to make it interesting so it can be made up. I’m thinking of writing about beating the number one tennis player in the world but I don’t think I can extend that to 500 words so I need more topics. Any ideas anyone?

Okay, the question really is: what are you interested in? You seem to like sports based on the tennis reference, so go with something like that. As an AP teacher, I know sort of what yours might be looking for. Try not to do anything too outlandish, like flying to the moon or curing cancer, but don’t be afraid to be creative. Here’s some suggestions:

1. Write about a trip you didn’t take; use a TON of detail. That should cover the length issue.

2. Write about a skill that you perfected. Perhaps you could use something that might seem difficult but that can easily be researched, like juggling or a foreign language. It can something quirky too, like how you beat some video game or programed your Ipod.

3. Go extreme. Talk about how you learned to skydive or climbed some mountain. Pick something physically demanding so you can use that description for your length.

4. Finally, pick something serious. Talk about how you helped someone or went through something very trying, like the loss of a family member or a friend. I know it’s not very pleasant, but these things generate a lot of ideas and words.

Look, 500 words is just two pages, and teachers usually just want to make sure you can actually write. Trust me…and good luck.
