Can Votrient cure cancer?
Votrient is not a cure for cancer, but it does increase progression-free survival – this is the length of time during and after treatment that a patient lives with the disease but it does not get worse – and can shrink or slow the growth of kidney cancer in some people.
Does Votrient shrink tumors?
Votrient has been shown to slow the growth and spread of renal cell carcinoma and soft tissue sarcoma. (Renal cell carcinoma is a type of kidney cancer. Soft tissue sarcoma is cancer of the soft tissue, such as muscles, tendons, nerves, and blood vessels.) Votrient may also help shrink these types of tumors.
Does Votrient suppress your immune system?
Pazopanib is generally well tolerated in patients. We know of no evidence that pazopanib suppresses the immune system, unlike some other cancer treatments that are known to suppress immunity.
How does pazopanib work?
Pazopanib blocks the proteins (kinases) from sending signals to cancer cells to grow. Blocking the signals causes the cells to die. Pazopanib can also stop the cancer cells from developing new blood vessels. This reduces their supply of oxygen and nutrients, so that the tumour shrinks or stops growing.
When should I take pazopanib?
It is best to take this medicine on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew it. Take antacids several hours before or after you take pazopanib.
What type of drug is pazopanib?
Pazopanib is used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC, a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the kidneys) in adults. Pazopanib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by slowing or stopping the spread of cancer cells.
How long does Votrient stay in your system?
Votrient stays in your system for approximately 5 to 6.5 days. This estimate is based on the half-life of Votrient which is about 31 hours and experts agree that it takes up to 5 half-lives for a drug without active metabolites to be completely removed from the body.
Is Votrient chemotherapy?
Votrient is not a chemotherapy drug but one of many “targeted therapies.” Targeted therapy is the result of about 100 years of research dedicated to understanding the differences between cancer cells and normal cells.
When is pazopanib used?
Pazopanib is a cancer medicine that is used to treat patients with kidney cancer (advanced renal cell carcinoma). It is also used to treat advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have received other cancer treatments.
