Can you use xylene on stamped concrete?
Xylene can be applied in three ways, all of which depend on the antiquing and/or cleaning method used when the concrete was stamped.
Can you mix xylene with the concrete sealer?
Pour the Xylene on the surface and allow it to sit for about 45 seconds. Then, pour on a little more and use a stiff straw scrub brush to lightly scrub and break up the sealer. The Xylene will melt the sealer back into it’s liquid form.
Can concrete sealer be thinned?
Is thinning a sealer recommended? The obvious answer is “no.” Anytime you alter a sealer’s formulation you risk affecting its performance — not to mention voiding any stated warranty.
Does xylene remove sealer?
Xylene will work good for removing solvent based concrete sealers. It’s a little messy, but Xylene will re-emulsify the concrete sealer and soften it to the point where you an pressure wash it off. You can pour or spray on the Xylene in a small section, don’t let the xylene evaporate.
Will xylene work on water based sealer?
Xylene should be applied to the problem area at 300 ft2/gallon, using a suitable sprayer or a roller, and then allowed to soak until the sealer becomes soft and gummy; this typically takes less than five minutes.
What are the pros and cons of using xylene?
Table 2
Advantages | Disadvantages |
---|---|
Reasonably fast drying and leaves no residue | Cannot be distilled |
Reduced fire risk | Samples take more time to dry thoroughly |
Has a high vapor pressure, and thus does not evaporate fast. | Degreasing effect on skin |
Hence, cover slipping multiple slides is easy |
How long does it take xylene to evaporate?
Usually, most of the xylene that is taken in leaves the body within 18 hours after exposure ends. About 4–10% of absorbed xylene may be stored in fat, which may prolong the time needed for xylene to leave the body.
How do you dilute concrete sealer?
Mix 1 part Hydrochloric Acid to 15 parts water into a watering can, apply evenly over the surface of the concrete. Do NOT allow the acid to dry. Thoroughly rinse off the surface to remove the acid solution. Allow to dry completely prior to sealing.
How do you use xylene?
Apply Xylene to the problem area at a rate of 300 ft2 per gallon. Work in manageable sections that can be reached with a handled roller. Allow the Xylene to dwell for 1 to 2 minutes until the sealer has softened.
How do you strip sealer with xylene?
Pour a small amount of Xylene on an area that is still coated by the previous concrete sealer. Allow the Xylene to sit for 20 seconds. Remove any excess. Touch the area and if it is tacky or sticky the surface was sealed with a solvent-based sealer.
Can you dilute xylene with water?
Xylene does not mix well with water; however, it does mix with alcohol and many other chemicals. Most people begin to smell xylene in air at 0.08– 3.7 parts of xylene per million parts of air (ppm) and in water at 0.53–1.1 ppm.
