Widal test showed sensitivity and specificity of 53% and 83% on blood culture proven cases. Typhidot test showed sensitivity and specificity of 93% and 83%, respectively on blood culture proven cases. Conclusion: Using blood culture as the gold standard, typhidot showed a higher sensitivity compared to Widal test.

Is Typhidot test same as Widal test?
The Widal test is both quantitative as well as qualitative and it can tell the titres of specific antibodies. The typhidot separately identifies IgM and IgG antibodies against the bacteria. IgM shows recent infection where as IgG signifies remote infection. The Typhidot test only gives result as positive or negative.
Is Widal test specific or non specific?
While the method is easy to perform, concerns remain about the reliability of the Widal test. It is not specific for typhoid fever and can be positive when a person does not have the infection.
What is the sensitivity of Typhidot in patients with other diseases?
Amongst the 130 patients with diseases other than typhoid, 50(38.5%) showed a positive Typhidot result. Amongst the 15 patients with typhoid, 11(73.3%) showed a negative Typhidot result. The sensitivity of Typhidot was found to be 26.7% and the specificity was 61.5%.
