QUESTION
English Essay – Help!?
In our english essay, We have to write an essay about either an embarassing moment, a moment where you felt hurt and emotional or a time in your life you felt proud of yourself.
I chose the third one. The proud one.
Anyway, i’m going to write about when I passed my I.T. course 😛
and this is what I wrote so far!!..

………..English Essay

I left my college at exactly 3 o’clock, but didn’t want to go home, mainly because I was absolutely sick of the frequent questions asked by my father – how many lessons had I had today – what did I see myself doing in the future and what grades had I been getting recently. I know he asks these questions because he cares and he wants me to do well at college, but I found his questions excruciating. Thus, I thought, I should go to a café and buy some coffee and sit there to kill time. I went into the café, and because I’m always really shy asking the waitress what I want, my guard was up. I’ve always been the type of person who’s very insecure.
As I approached the waitress, she looked up smiling. “Can I help you?” she asked.
“Yes”, I replied warily. “I’d like a coffee please.” ………….

But I’m thinking, are you even allowed to do speech marks and stuff or should I just write, I ordered my coffee 😐
im utterly confused. are you allowed to do speeches in essays or not? 😐

ANSWER
I left college at three o’clock, but I didn’t want to go home, mainly because I was absolutely sick of my father’s constant badgering: How many lessons had I had today? What did I see myself doing in the future? What were my grades like? I know he asks because he cares and he wants me to do well; I know that but still it grates. So, I thought, I’ll go to a café and kill some time. The thing is, I’ve always been quite shy about talking to strange people, so my guard was up. As I approached the waitress, she looked up and smiled. I couldn’t help but smile back.

Hi, good story. I’m not sure of your college’s policy on direct quotes so I can’t advise you. Usually they’re fine and sometimes they’re unavoidable. I don’t think the coffee dialogue needs quotes unless it’s going to lead to something else.
