- Turn off your heating.

- Note the speed each radiator heats up.
- Allow your heating to cool down.
- Turn your heating back on.
- Adjust the fastest radiator.
- Repeat for other radiators.
Does balancing radiators make a difference?
When you balance radiators, you allow more water to flow to the colder radiators and restrict the flow from the radiators that are too hot. For example, if the radiator in the kitchen heats up quickly but the one in the lounge takes forever, then your radiators need balancing.
What happens if you don’t balance radiators?
If you don’t balance your radiators, hot water coming from your boiler will not be evenly distributed. This is because, by definition, radiators are at various distances from your boiler. Those which are closest will receive greater heat.
Can Hear radiator filling up?
If you can hear water dripping or trickling inside your radiator, then it’s very likely that your rad is not full and contains air pockets inside. This is actually quite a common problem in tall radiators, often because they are filled too quickly, causing air to be trapped within the radiator.
How far should I open a lockshield valve?
You should open the Lockshield valve on the first radiator by one-quarter of a turn. Now open the Lockshield valve on the last radiator on your list. Each radiator in between should have its Lockshield valve opened slightly more than the previous radiator.
Should radiators heat from top to bottom?
