How do you format an essay to be double spaced without your named and date getting double spaced as well?

QUESTION
How do you format an essay to be double spaced without your named and date getting double spaced as well?
I’m using microsoft word 2007, and I only need the contents of the essay double spaced.

ANSWER
First, double space your document. Select the entire document by pressing “ctrl”+”a”. Click on the home tab, then click the line spacing button in the paragraph group. From the new menu select remove spacing before (this step may not be necessary so if the option doesn’t appear on the menu, you’re fine and can skip this step). Now, click the line spacing option again and select 2.0 from the menu. This will double space everything. Now deselect the document contents by clicking once anywhere in the text. Now select the name and date by highlighting them (click and hold the last letter or number and move the cursor to until everything is highlighted). Finally, click the line spacing button again and select 1.0.
