QUESTION
How important are the college supplement essays [the ones that want you to explain why you like the school]?
In the common application, a lot of colleges have additional essays where they ask questions like “why do you like the school” and similar topics

How important are these essays? Are they less important than the main essay?

How long should they typically be?

ANSWER
How important is the beef in the beef stew?
Do your homework, find out all the best and worst things about the school and include them both in your essay. For example, “Even though the gym is a long distance from the next class, the bike path through the campus makes the trip a breeze.”
You should make it concise, that it, don’t be padding it just to take up space, because they don’t like to be conned, and they’ll know, c’mon, they’re college graduates.
Make it two or three double spaced pages. Use your spell checker.
Purchase a copy of “The Elements of Style” by Strunk and White. It will be a godsend when you’re writing any paper for college.
You can do this!
