How long should an SAT essay be?
Also, if you have any other tips for the essay or the SAT as a whole, they’d be greatly appreciated. I’ve only taken the ACT before, and I’m slightly nervous.
They give you two sheets to write the essay on. Your goal should be to write an introduction, two body paragraphs (each body paragraph is about one example to support your point) and a conclusion. Your essay should be at least 1.5 pages to be developed enough to get a good score. (But don’t write large just to make it look longer. That’s lame.)
For the multiple choice … here’s some advice.
• Focus on process of elimination. You’ve probably heard that before but it’s huge. If an answer is definitely wrong, cross it off in your test booklet so that you’re not tempted to pick it.
• You lose 1/4 point for wrong answers, so don’t guess unless you can eliminate at least one wrong answer (2-3 is even better.)
• Very (VERY) few people answer all the questions and get an excellent score. Most people are average. Unless you’re one of the top 5% of test-takers in the country, don’t bother answering all the questions. For example, did you know that if you only answer about 2/3 of the questions on each section (and you get them RIGHT because you SLOWED DOWN and missed very few) then you can easily get a 600 on every section. This is a fact. Don’t try all the questions. Slow down, score more.
