How to cite correctly??

QUESTION
How to cite correctly??
When do you need to cite something in an essay? Is it ok if I put a sentence from an article into my own words without citing?

ANSWER
You need to cite when you’re using a direct quote from a person or source. You can cite directly in your essay using quotations.

You also need to cite when you’re using resources for your essay. For example, primary and secondary sources. You still have to cite even if you’re using your own words because you used whatever source you got the information from.
(However, I think this is if your teacher wants you to cite your sources. So, maybe it’s optional?)

You cite your sources on a works cited page. This is separate from the essay. The most common format to list sources is in MLA format:
