how to start a comparing & contrast essay?

QUESTION
how to start a comparing & contrast essay?
can you tell me how to start it off im using the poem Harlem by Langston Hughes and The Worn Path by Eudora Welty

ANSWER
The two are very different but there are some similarities they both have a theme of hope and a dream of things to come in them
A worn path ends with Phoenix dreaming of her grandson recovering and his happiness of her gift for him it also ends with her vision of returning home triumphant with her gift in hand and no trials or trepidations along the way. It also has a theme of pride

Harlem also has these hope and dream attributes but not in the same reference. They are in a negative way. Hughes’ poem talks about the dashed hopes and dreams rather than Phoenix’s positive ones. I would start off by referencing something about this.

Bernard Edmonds writes “To dream anything that you want to dream. That’s the beauty of the human mind,” both Langston Hughes and Eudora Welty portray a vision of dreams in their works but in a very different way. Welty sends a positive and upbeat vision of an old woman’s dream through her character of Phoenix while Hughes’s gives us a more morbid and pessimistic vision of a dream lost in his work “Harlem.

Hope this helps get you started or gets your own wheels turning…let me know how it goes:)
