How to write a Argumentative essay?

QUESTION
How to write a Argumentative essay?
I have a topic. (influence of military-industrial complex in the Cuban missile crisis, the Vietnam war,and the war of Iraq. Can anyone help?

ANSWER
Well I don’t know much about the subject, but I’m not bad at arguing, especially in the form of writing.

The first thing you need to do is research. Depending on how advanced the research needs to be, your paper needs to be supported either exhaustively or you can relax a little. (And always site your work.) Save all of the relevant and halfway-relevant information that you can find. Research things like what kinds of strategies were used in each conflict, the expected casualties in each, the results of each war (even though technically we haven’t declared war on Iraq), perhaps the civilian reactions to soldiers (did they welcome them or resent their presence?), and anything else you think will help you in your paper. Use all the information you can to support your case without over-saturating the paper and making it look like a research paper instead of an argument. I’d suggest browsing the site below to make sure you aren’t employing any logical fallacies on accident, as your teacher will probably call you on it.

That’s all I can think of for now, at least! I’m not quite sure if I answered your question or not. Basically, an argumentative essay is a persuasion essay with more physical evidence. But keep it LOGICAL. Emotional appeal should be used sparingly–appeal to your reader’s rationale as much as possible. If there were a lot of casualties and you believe the US should just keep its nose to itself, lean more toward examples of how poorly interference can turn out instead of declaring how unjust it is to infringe on another country’s affairs, or perhaps relate it to our own Constitution and see if you can find a hypocritical statement there (but don’t use that word, just point out the inconsistency).

I hope this helps! Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. Just keep in mind that I had to research the Cuban missile crisis to figure out what it was, and that I’m only knowledgeable in the writing aspect of the essay. 🙂
