How to write about US income inequality

The United States is one of the most developed countries in the world. This fact is also evident in other countries of the world. In the US, it is common to think that the middle class is a “living wage”, which determines the standard of living. In the process of economic development, the distribution of people is usually very wide. As a rule, the upper and middle classes are connected. In the American society, there are many layers of social security and benefits for the middle class.

But the idea of a “living wage” in the United States is not just a theoretical concept. It means a set of conditions and opportunities, including but not only professional and labor opportunities, but also all types of property, including capital, central managerial positions, educational and cultural positions. The way of life and financial situation of the middle class in the United States is very different from the ideal model it was formed in the British Empire. So, writing about the income inequality in the United States, you should write that, in the broad sense, the American concept of the middle class consists of three components: the 1. Service – the expectation of a salary for a specific number of hours worked over a long period of time.

  • Wages and pensions are considered as the basic components of the incomes of the middle class. The earnings of any part of the population of the US middle class include unemployment, incomes from self-employment and entrepreneurship. In the model of income distribution, the following criteria are of the importance:
  • Incomes of middle class are intended to serve as a basis for the salaries of other components of the middle class.
  • The middle class invests funds in real estate and liquid assets.
  • Incomes of any part of the population of the United States include wages, pensions and other social benefits.
  • Incomes of any part of the population of the United States consist of benefits provided by a broad stratum of taxpayers considering themselves as the backbone of the state and therefore entitled to control its expenses.
  • Incomes of any part of the population of the United States represent the amount of money received by all members of the middle class.
  • The pay of the middle class includes a social insurance system. As a rule, it consists of benefits granted by all layers of the population — the middle class and the lower class.
  • In the system of social management, the function of the middle class is to strengthen the interests of the middle class in the contest for income.
  • In the system of individual entrepreneurship, the middle class is the source of capital. In the process of accumulation and differentiation of labor, its representatives use their professional and qualification potential based on a high level of education.
  • In the process of social mobility, the middle class plays the role of the most important social institution, which is also called the “engine of progress” in the United States. In the framework of the “incentive policy” developed in the first half of the twentieth century, the middle class is considered as one of the most successful elements of the social mechanism of the economy. So, the main thing that you need to know about the middle class is its ability to achieve high economic status, especially among the public.
  • The habit of the middle class to consume too much money. As a rule, this characteristic is formed by the experience of the preceding generations. The normally accepted view of the middle class as a “lifeless” population is incorrect. In the modern theory of income inequality, the following definition of this class is formed: it is an autonomous social subject capable of achieving its own goals, if it does so, it can and does it really exist. Unlike the elite groups, the middle class is not a “social elite”. It is not a “social and economic elite” (class) but a “social and commercial elite” (class) in the broad sense of the word.
  • In the system of meritocracy, the middle class is distinguished by high loyalty to the political and economic traditions of the country. Therefore, it is not difficult to find the sources of the majority of the population’s respect in the area of the middle class.
  • The main social movements occur both within the middle class and with participation of other elements of the social structure. Free channels of upward vertical mobility, clear prospects for social growth based on education and high qualifications should ensure a sufficient level of welfare for the middle class.
  • In the system of patronage provided by the middle class, political and economic leaders, especially the ministers of the interior, are responsible for the implementation and results of the public programs. Therefore, the question of the dependence of the middle class on government is often asked.
  • In the sphere of legal regulation, the middle class is protected from criticism by law. The state protects it from discrimination.
