How to write an argumentative essay on why a character in a book is mentally ill?

QUESTION
How to write an argumentative essay on why a character in a book is mentally ill?
I just read the book The Wilding by Benjamin Percy. My teacher wants us to write a paper arguing whether or not a certain character is mentally ill (he almost certainly is).

Does anyone have any ideas or direction on how I could go about writing this?

ANSWER
State your thesis that says more-or-less that he is mentally ill, and find quotes inside the book that support that thesis, and situations. Then take your second best point and explain it after the opening paragraph (the first paragraph is your introduction, the second is when you start in on the evidence), next take the weakest point and discuss it in the third paragraph, and then move up the ladder in subsequent paragraphs until you get to the second to last paragraph, then bring out your best point. The last paragraph should be a resolution that briefly recaps all the points you made and ties it all together to a stunning end.

When you are finished check that you cited things correctly, and add a works cited page. Check online for proper formatting, and ask the teacher which style of citations to use.
