I have this English draft essay due for tomorow and I need help with the introduction?
its about the american dream, and just a general start to the essay, the opening paragraph can be anything about dreams, than i have to narrow it down to the theisis statment please help

ANSWER
What is the American Dream?
The term was first used by James Truslow Adams in his book the Epic of America which was written in 1931. He states:

“The American Dream is “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.” (p.214-215)

In journalism, you’re taught to cover the 5 W’s: Who, What, Where, When, Why…then they throw in How.

Another is that your opening statement should be like a fish hook…you want to get the attention of the reader and interest in reading what you’ve written.

And finally…don’t forget that your closing should reflect on your opening and body statements, acting as a string to tie the whole thing together. I’m sure you’re aware that there’s three structures to any type writing: The Opening; The Body; The Closing
