I need an idea for my photo essay assignment?
I have to make a photo essay for my photojournalism class. It can be a documentary, an editorial essay, or a narrative photo story. Basically just 8 photos that tells a story and has a point. I want mine to be creative and out of the box. I think homelessness would be a good one, but obviously I can’t just go find a homeless person. So my ideas so far are..
Maybe something that has to do with not judging a book by it’s cover? Maybe some photos with a girl dressed in different outfits like goth, prep, conservative, etc. I don’t know, I can’t think of the exact point I’ll make with that yet.
Another is loneliness. I’m not sure exactly what I’d capture with this either, it’s just an idea.
Basically, I just want it to be really creative and dramatic. Maybe all black and white photos. I want it to be something better than just “a day in the life of ___” or whatever.
Sounds like a fun assignment! I like your idea of not judging a book by its cover. Maybe you could do something about diversity and how its important in our society? Like have mulitple pictures of people of different races/ethnicities, and have pictures of like their stereotype. For example African American males in the hood, or Mexicans with lots of children? I don’t know if that makes sense, but dig deeper and return back to your idea of not judging people on their looks (stereotypes). Hope this got your mind jogging a little more. Good luck:)
