I need help with a quote for a college essay?
I am working on a essay that is going to be attached to a college applications for admissions to an architecture program. It is a personal statement and I have to be creative. I decided to use quotations from different architects that have an impact on me and that I respect. Some of these architects also describe me in some ways as well. I want to have a quotations from these architects and I have found the different quotations that I want to use but I am not sure how to put them in the essay properly. I want the quotations to open up each paragraph. Does anyone know how to do this correctly or does anyone know where I can go to figure out how other than a writing tutor?
Starting a paragraph with a quote is a very common type of writing tool. I will say that every paragraph starting with one though might become a little redundant and appear uncreative. Possibly try starting the entire essay off with one, adding another somewhere in the body of a paragraph, and use a final one in the conclusion either as the beginning of the last paragraph or the last sentence.
Here is an example of how to start an essay with a quote.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” These inspiring words were said by our former first lady, Elenore Roosevelt but they hold a special meaning for me.
You need to give the quote and who said it and tie it in to why it holds meaning to you.
To end an essay you kind of do the opposite. Something like this:
When I start to loose faith in myself I just try to remember the words of our former first lady, Elenore Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
I hope this helps.
