I need help writing a college application essay!?
This is the question:
Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying. How would that curriculum support your interests?
I am planning to study psychology at the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts in that specific university. I want to do this because of all of the experience I have with psychology (my grandma, mom, and brother all have depression and anxiety issues, my brother has bipolar, and I had an eating disorder) I just don’t know how to start it!!
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
The best way to write a college essay, in my opinion, is to tell a story. It sounds like you have a lot of potential experiences that you could use to explain to the admissions office why you’re interested in psychology. Rather than try to go into all of it at once, brainstorm and pick a single moment in time that shows how psychology affects your life.
For example (I don’t know your life, so these are plucked out of the air), when you realized you had an eating disorder, an event that was affected (positively or negatively) by your brother’s bipolar disorder, etc. I would avoid an attempt to summarize more than one event, because that makes your essay cluttered. After telling your story, finish the essay by explaining why that makes you want to go into psychology, and specifically at that school.
If possible, have at least one person read over your essay before you send it in. English teachers are wonderful resources, but if you don’t feel comfortable with anyone reading it (even in an online setting), read it over yourself a few times–out loud.
