If a teacher finds out about a student self harming in the past are they obligated to report it?

QUESTION
If a teacher finds out about a student self harming in the past are they obligated to report it?
For an English assignment we have to write a personal essay about something we believe in. For an example look at the thisibelieve.org website. I want to write mine on why I believe in random phone calls however that involves mentioning how I used to self harm. Is my English obligated to report it or check into it if I do write my essay on this? And should I do it and just deal with having to talk about it or should I write a half hearted essay instead?

ANSWER
Most people tend to not share personal info like that on a piece of paper for school or at all in general.
You said “used to harm youself” so I’m assuming you don’t do it anymore so no I don’t need to tell you to look for support, since I’m assuming you are okay now.

On my opinion it might be awkward to write about how you used to harm yourself. Because it might seem dramatic as the teacher talks to you and recommends you talk to some therapist or somebody.

Well I’m not sure what would happen, but I personally wouldn’t want to read about someone harming themselves.

Well I assume if you are 18 and older it is your own business and they don’t have to report it, unless they think you seriously need help.

If under 18 you are a minor and the teacher will report anything that they believe is harming you once they learn of it.

I’m not a whole lot sure what would happen really.
If it were up to me i would avoid writing about it, having a teacher read it.
If it makes you feel any better maybe you should discuss it with your parents or something.
