I’m writing a cause and effect essay and I need help understanding how to write the thesis statement?

QUESTION
I’m writing a cause and effect essay and I need help understanding how to write the thesis statement?
My paper is on pet overpopulation. I first wrote it as just a cause paper, but now I’m returning to it to turn it into a cause AND effect paper.

My original thesis: “Due to unprepared and irresponsible owners, a failure to spay or neuter pets and the economy being so bad, pet overpopulation is still a growing problem today.”

This is how I think I’m going to have it, but I’m not sure: “Due to irresponsible and unprepared owners, a failure to spay and neuter and the economy being so bad, pet overpopulation is still a growing problem today and the effects are mind blowing; effect 1, effect 2, effect 3..” (haven’t gotten that far yet).

That seems too long, but I don’t know how else to connect the causes and effects in the thesis.
Do I just make another intro type paragraph after all the cause paragraphs with the effect thesis?

Hopefully this makes sense.
I am not asking anyone to do the work for me, I’m simply just asking what the correct way is.
Thank you.

ANSWER
I am sure your grammer teachers have told you before and were correct in saying “the thesis has to contain enough information to get the jist of the paper”. You have to put the cause AND effects in the into paragraph.

Start off the intro with your opening sentence like you were and do something like this:

Due to irresponsible and unprepared owners, a failure to spay and neuter and the economy being so bad, pet overpopulation is still a growing problem today with mind blowing effects such as………”

Just give one or two word effects, go into the details in your supporting paragraphs (usually one paragraph per effect).
