Most common types of reports are:
A summary of a customer’s or a company’s earnings (annual or quarterly)
An overview of a product or service which may be sold to customers
Other types include:
Business Overview (e.g., “The average net sales for the last two years was X”)
Sales Report
Organizational Overview
Operating Results / Cash Flow Statements / Cash-Flow Statements
Product or Service Summary or Comparison Report

Research report (e.g., “The average sales per person at our company was Y”)

Information Report – This report should contain specific numerical numbers of sales and cost basis, which indicates how much an item is worth. Most companies provide a list of products or services that they sell and are categorized into the following levels:
Sell-able – all sales of a product or service can be sold.
– all sales of a product or service can be sold. Cost-able – at a minimum, costs must be met to have the item sold. If costs are not met, the item cannot be sold and must be canceled. A product or service’s cost is calculated by adding the price of one unit to a standard price for additional units that must be purchased to get the price per unit (cost basis). This is known as the cost calculator method. This type of report is usually given by management and may be used to determine which products or services should be sold.
Sales Chart – A sales chart depicts the sales and revenue of a given product unit over time. It might be used when making a business decision about which products or service to expand the business. For example, a company may choose to add a product or service to one of its existing offerings simply as a way to get more revenue and sales in order to maintain the company’s current level of profitability. The sales chart, on the other hand, could be used to determine which line items should be eliminated and how much should be cut from one product category to help balance the department’s finances.
Product Analysis – A product analysis report provides a more detailed view of a product. It does not provide numbers in terms of units sold nor does it represent a product’s worth against other products in its category. Instead it provides a comprehensive analysis that will provide the following information:
Product name
Describes the product, its value for a given customer, and the current market share.
This gives a picture of the value of a product in the current marketplace and will help the company’s planning, forecasting and forecasting.
Product Name – For example, this might mean that the product is the Dell PowerEdge C7000. The word Dell means “computer” and this is the name of the processor within the Dell PowerEdge C7000.
