Interesting way to start a college essay?
I’m currently writing a college essay about this:
“Some students have a background story that is so central to their identity that they believe that their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story”
I was born in a different country and came to the country when I was 9.
I’m unsure of how I should start the essay. Should I start it with an explanation? Or something completely unexpected? If so, how do you suggest I do so, or what should I include?
These are the different introductions I’ve come up with so far, Please tell me which one you think is the best and edit it if you can to make it better or write me a new one:
A) Imagine that you and your parents were abducted by aliens, but the aliens don’t intend to harm you. You have no way of communicating and your ways and ethics are completely different. That is how I felt when I first came to American at the age of 9 …….
B) Life itself can a dark and twisted thing. It throws a curve ball at you when you least expect it. Getting through it can make a person wiser and more experienced, but the experience is forever etched into our minds…….
C) The biggest change happened when I was at the age of 9 …….
D)I remember when I first arrived to United States it was very special and unique day for my family and me…..
E) Discomfort, tension, stress, depression. I was overwhelmed by these feelings when I first moved to America at the age of 9…..
Hi, I’m an English major so I have a lot of experience writing :). I suggest that you start writing, get passionate about it, and just WRITE WRITE WRITE. The most important thing that you can do is be yourself, and don’t worry about what the person reading is going to think. After you have your paper written, go back through it and check for errors. Do what you feel the most comfortable with. It is easy to tell (when reading) if you’re passionate about your story or if you’re just writing to fill a requirement. Your story is already interesting, now just be yourself and write. Hope this helps…
