Is there a place online where I can share my college essay to be commented on safely without being stolen?
If you take out the word, “online,” then the answer becomes “yes.” There are a number of “safe” ways to have your essay reviewed, but they’re not on the internet. Start with a trusted teacher, particularly one in the English department, and ask if that person can “take a quick look” at the essay for you. If your essay is well written, it isn’t too much of a demand on the teacher’s time to “give it a once over.” (If it’s badly written, and it’s going to take hours and hours of correction and work, the teacher will tell you that up front and suggest a re-write.) A second choice is any family members you might have who have graduated from college. They’ve done enough writing to know when an essay is a good one, and when it isn’t. You obviously want to protect your essay from potential thieves, and you want the assurance that you are submitting one that’s as correct and proper as you can manage. That calls for help from people you can trust, which means teachers and adult family members. If none of those options are available, you might be better off simply doing the best you can on your own and avoid posting anything to the internet.
