Pay this kid to write/consult me on Ivy League Admissions? Should I do it?

QUESTION
Pay this kid to write/consult me on Ivy League Admissions? Should I do it?
Alright I visited this Ivy League university the other day and I got in touch with one of the guys currently going there.

He’s 21 and had 98th Percentile SATs and did not get in because of alumni, parents, money, etc… He said he can help me write me essay and basically do college admissions consulting for me for about $500 for the whole thing.

I know there are TONS of these people out there but a lot of them have PhDs and some are previous admissions Deans. This is a guy who’s currently attending the university (top 5).

Should I go for it? He sent me his old college essay and it is GOOD!

ANSWER
Don’t do it. How do you know he actually wrote that essay? There are tons of college essays online, to the point where many colleges are checking them for plagiarism. He didn’t get into those schools – and none of those things you listed would have kept him out. The top schools don’t care if you can’t pay – they don’t ask when they admit you. Most don’t care about alumni connections because they could fill the entire incoming class with legacy students, and they don’t. Sounds like he’s trying to scam you – don’t fall for it. Just do it yourself.
