The dissertation may seem a daunting undertaking at first, but there are a few things that a student should remember about it that can drastically improve their time.
Be clear on key topics You shouldn’t feel intimidated if there are many papers to write in a particular topic area. The dissertation is just a starting point to a research project, an explanation of the work process in the field. Writing on different topics in different journals can make it difficult to decide which is the best choice for you. This is not necessarily a sign of a bad graduate student; instead it just shows that the student needs to have a better idea about the direction that he or she wishes to go in. Use proper terminology If the dissertation’s target audience is readers and critics, then it’s always necessary to avoid common mistakes. For example, a dissertation must not use the terms ‘categories’ or ‘context’ or ‘conceptions’. Instead, use the appropriate terminology for the research topic. Read carefully to find out how to describe studies, cases, and so on The work needs to be explained in the dissertation and not simply described as data. Therefore it is crucial that the reader understands the research methodology in detail. For example a researcher will not have a PhD if he or she can’t identify the source document. It isn’t always easy to know what is the difference between a study, a case, and so on, and it is important that the reader understands the difference and why the dissertation is talking about it. Ask questions at the beginning of the dissertation Writing a dissertation is very much like writing a research paper. Therefore it is very important to ask questions and seek the necessary feedback at all stages. The problem can appear immediately if the research is too big and if it’s too technical for an informal discussion at the first meeting. Try to get an overview of the different aspects of the topics and ideas you are going to write about, as well as the research method you will incorporate during your dissertation. You may find that you should discuss some points at meetings, and the rest will be discussed when you come back to the library afterwards.
Some additional rules that should help you write a better dissertation:
Keep things in chronological order
The thesis formulates a clear timeline of research that makes finding information easy. This is very important while writing a history of the discipline.

Keep all citations in the appendices. If a study is published in a refereed journal, it will be given its own citation. This will make it easier for scholars to follow the research process.
