Question on College Essay I Have to Write?
Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why this person is important to you.
That’s the topic, I was woundering if instead of actually writing about a real person I should just make one up… the whole point of writing this essay is for colleges to judge your writing ability, correct? I feel as if I could write a lot better if I could just actually make someone up and how that person influenced me…
If it’s a college admissions essay, I would advise writing about a real person. College admissions essays often require you to sign a statement verifying that everything you have reported in the admissions packet, including the essay, are factual. Otherwise, admission can be denied or revoked. The reason is that the college wants to know how well you can write AND about your character and history.
On the other hand, if it’s just a writing assignment given in college, I don’t see why it needs to be about a real person. The purpose of such an essay would probably just be to judge how well you can write.
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you.
