Currently there is much talk of the need or lack of values in different fields of life, especially in education. But what we mean when we talk about values?
Throughout the history of modern Western thought the term values has been defined in different ways. The first philosopher who puts in “vogue” this word is F. Nietzsche in his “Genealogy of Morals”, followed by Max Scheler, D.Von Hildebrand, among others. Although it is a complex concept without a universally accepted definition in the strict sense, one can define the value as a horizon of meaning, as something to aspire to have, as an ideal center of gravity of human life. So when we talk about values, talk in generic terms of human values, those that are unique to people who live in society, those universal values that can make it easier and more humane life. The first transmitter agent values is the family, the main protagonist in the life of the individual sample values that are passed in it will be the cornerstone for relationships and social attitudes fururas. Then, the education system is expected to teach not only “learning to learn “but” learn to live” and it is important the role of the school, where teachers, peers and the entire educational community which interacts with the child and youth daily, transferred some different values that the individual had wrought. At this stage, one of the main protagonists in terms of transmission of values is concerned, is the teacher who by example and taught how to act, illustrates why the teacher should be very aware of your attitudes, words, gestures and they try to transmit only positive values such as respect, unity, honesty, tolerance, solidarity, without inconsistencies between the “mean” and “doing”. Offer your students an atmosphere of trust and remember that in the new approaches to educational guidance, the teacher, with his current training can and should implement the attention of their students in a comprehensive way.
Because the values are changeable and necessary and that each person creates them, the main role of the educator is to help students in the process of creation or modification of these values if you already had and were not adequate.
For this, the teacher should: Promote the values as the basis for all academic subjects, which, to facilitate the student to assume responsible behavior, tolerant, work, marriage, respect and solidarity. Promote activities of coexistence between parents-students In daily academic activities to stimulate and develop attitudes of analysis, meditation and conclusion. support and promote parent-child communication through simple activities, such as: having a “parent communication notebook” in which students write in a very summarized their experiences, thoughts, questions of their daily work, which must be signed by the teacher and parents. This will ensure the exchange of information and communication between parent-teacher-student. Promote formal education within the overall development of students, from a fundamental perspective: that of people trained as ethical, free and responsible, with capacity for personal interaction and social tolerant, democratic and constructive. Encouraging the balance between academic content and teaching values that favor the development of the student. inspire students in their choice of personal values and learn practical methods to develop and deepen them. Countering negative influence in terms of teaching erroneous values, which mostly spread by some media, especially TV, the teacher should develop critical thinking in students, helping them to people who are conscious and reflective in the purchase of own reasoning and conclusions .
Summing up: although the values are related to the individual and everyone sets their value system, it is also true that they are content to be transmitted as contents of teaching and learning in school, means you can teaching and learning, not only as a dimension of learning that must take into account the educational process, but as one of the basic factors in the quality of education. In this educational experience the figure and the teacher’s role as the fundamental basis of guiding students towards the consolidation of the proposed objectives for the crowning achievement of transforming the world we live in something special and beautiful.
