Judging from your description, you must be applying for a scholarship offered by one of the Sons of the American Revolution chapters – if so, you need to appreciate your organization’s perspective in order to write an effective and well-received essay.
Spend some time on the website for the National Association, and you’ll have a pretty good sense of what they’re all about. (see here: http://www.sar.org/About/Our_Goals )
As a helpful bonus, the national site offers a sample of a winning essay from the 2001-2002 competition. You can find that here: http://www.sar.org/Youth/Knight_Essay/Ex…
There’s even more information here: http://www.sar.org/Youth/Knight_Essay_Ru… which includes a pretty thorough explanation of what the organization has in mind as far as your biographical section:
“The contestant’s biography is limited to one page. Topics to be included in the biography are academic awards and achievements, school activities, community activities, and plans for college.”
I hope that info helps – good luck!
