What are my chances of getting into UChicago with a 3.0 gpa?
Okay so I’m a junior with a 3.0 gpa but I also have:
-scored 5s on 3 ap tests
-perfect sat score (2400)
-3 subject tests perfect score in math, world history and molecular biology
-300 hours of community service
-volleyball club, debate club, green school organization, student council, and women’s leadership program
-self-taught 6 languages and created a website for current event debate
the reason as to why my gpa is low is because long story short I honestly wasn’t told what a gpa is (one of my parents only completed GED the other took schooling from a different country) until the end of my junior year so what mattered to me most of my HS was that I should help pay the bills (worked from 12 am to 5 am with my mom) and to help my siblings with their schoolwork, one having ADD so it was a struggle. I know UChicago does holistics and I found them out when I received a pile of letters after my PSAT.
Should I do early action, passing my ACT, essays and interview with flying colors, or do 6 AP classes in my senior year to raise my gpa to do early decision?
Only a member of the admissions committee would ever have any chance of answering your question. Anyone else would simply be wild guessing. You’ll run into some people who will tell you, “You’ll definitely get in!!” and while that’s great to hear, it really doesn’t mean much. Others will tell you “Not a chance. You’re wasting your time,” and you would be a fool to listen to them. The only way to know for sure whether you will be accepted is to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications (stipulated in the catalog), send in an application, and see what happens. That’s a much smarter course of action than asking total strangers, who have no idea what they’re talking about, to take a wild stab at whether you will be accepted or not.
