To support Ontarians staying home during the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, the Government of Ontario has taken steps to hold the price of electricity at 8.5 ยข/kWh for electricity used from January 1, 2021 until the end of the day on February 22, 2021.
Is Ontario Hydro cheaper on holidays?
People use electricity differently depending on the season, so the TOU price periods are different in the summer than they are in the winter. No matter which season, on weekends and holidays the cheapest rates are in effect all day.
Is Ontario Hydro still on off-peak hours?
The government will continue to hold electricity prices to the off-peak rate of 8.5 cents per kilowatt-hour until February 22, 2021. This lower rate is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week for Time-Of-Use and tiered customers.

What are off peak rates?
Off peak rates are charged on weekends and holidays. The rates shown to the left apply Monday to Friday. If you do not have a Smart-Meter or if your hydro utility is not utilizing time-of-use billing, you are charged the same rate regardless of when you consume your electricity.
