QUESTION
What does this question mean exactly?
Im doing a history assignment on the black people during the 1920s and we have to talk about how they were treated. i know that there was a lot of racial discrimination and such involving the Klu Klux Klan.

Our essay question is: The economic and social policies of the successive republican government of the 1920s contributed to the world of inequality, tolerance and squalor

Please help, it would be much appreciated : )

ANSWER
Was NOT “republican” government – here’s the answer:
During the 1920’s the Federal Government did little to alleviate poverty and socio-economic disadvantage amongst its ethnic minorities. However at this time few Americans would have expected it to intervene in the way it does nowadays. There were rare instances where President Warren Harding spoke out against racial segregation, for example in Birmingham, Alabama, heartland of the racist South.
There is no proof, Republicans helped stop slavery, it’s the Democrats who always pull out the race card. Most blacks are Democrats, so why are Democrats so set on black people not being able to makes it anywhere in life without a hand? I mean, isn’t that holding black people back with that mentality? I think everyone can succeed if they try, without help, but apparently the whole Democratic party thinks that women and minorities need this extra boost and can’t be successful without their intervention. That’s why we are in such a mess with the economy, etc.
