What is a definition of this term “family” existing in the literature:

  • In the modern understanding of family, the following conceptualizations are of great importance:
  • The marriage is the union of a man and a woman concluded in the expectation that the offspring will survive and bring advantage to the latter.
  • Modern families are every time and space, however, they also fall into the category of social institutions.
  • Any healthy person is a part of the family. However, the modern concept of family does not attach the idea of family as a social institution. Its truth is manifested only in the social roles of the spouses and children. At the same time, the identity of the spouses and the relation between them has always been determined by the degree of family values coherence which is higher than the level of the collective values of the entire society.
  • The level of the family is determined by the level of the productive capacities of the spouses: each partner has the abilities of the other. Therefore, the characteristics of marital relations are dictated by the level of the producers of these values.

  • The social purpose of the marriage is the object of the highest value in the system of family values. Moreover, the marriage is the most important social institution which is directly related to the problems of the population in the creation of which each person has to perform his functions.
  • In the context of family values, the role of the marriage is much higher than the role of any other social institutions, since the primary source of values is the soul of the individual and the ability to get rid of them.
  • The main characteristics of spouses, the functional parts of which are characteristic of a given sociological type.
  • Idea – what an individual wants to say, his attitude to any society, his position in it, which is the basis of the family.
  • The principle of kinship fairness is based on the principle of kinship choice, in which the interests of the individual are taken into account the interests of the family.
  • The pattern is a minimum of structural components (the exception is the case of kinship solidarity). The family has a common gene pool which, nevertheless, is not identical with the norm. Gene pool manipulation is based on the harmony of interests and interactions of the family.
  • The family acts as a cultural community, a grouping of people related by a certain time and a certain tradition. Its social purpose is the maintenance of the basic moral values, the basic values of the individual and the achievement of the most important goals.
  • In the system of sacrifice, the ideal type of family is a one-family union consisting of parents and children. Such a family is characterized by a high degree of socialization. The image of parents is one of the main values. Thus, for a family which is strongly connected by family values, it is easy to achieve the most ambitious goals.
  • Modern families are characterized by a more pronounced emotional attachment and higher attachment to the marriage norm (the desire for the creation of a strong family, the adoption of children, etc.). In addition, the value of personal life is higher. The need for entertainment is lower, the desire for good government is higher.
  • The basic social values of a modern family are high social ease and high social life, the high quality of material and moral support which the family provides.
  • The family acts as a cultural community, a melting pot of relationships. All kinds of relationships between spouses arise here: parental, parental, professional, religious, domestic, regional, international, pre-marital, and so on. There are a huge number of ways to influence the formation of family values, which is expressed in the question of the relationship between marriage partners: for men and women.
  • Sex role of the spouses is determined by the degree of their functional independence (the degree of freedom, self-sufficiency, high independence of the spouses, mutual responsibility for the child, the desire for equal distribution of domestic work, etc.).
  • The modern family is based on a new ideal model of relationships. The struggle for the selection of partners is carried out by the spouses themselves, and this ideal is successfully achieved in the system of sacrifice.
  • Modern types of relationships are based on the basis of traditional friendship, family and marriage. They imply the organization of mutual activity which is facilitated by the degree of freedom of choice, reciprocity in the manifestation of the same kind of relationships between the spouses, the ability to share the marital burden, the high level of satisfaction which is provided by the participation in various types of work (education, travel, etc.).
  • There are many families with a common child – one of the children is the heir to the house of the deceased.
