What is the American Dream?
I am in high school and I have to write an essay about the American Dream. I need to know what parents think the American Dream is as well as what older people think. How has the dream changed throughout the recent history of the United States?
All answers will be greatly appreciated!!
Well, for every person it’s different. That’s what makes it the “American” dream.
For me, it’s all about being self-sufficient. I’m 35 now, own my contracting business, am a writer, have my own place and truck = sweetness.
I didn’t get where I am on my own, though. That’s another part of the dream – having people to stand behind and support you when you’re not that strong. I can’t deny it, I have been given many great gifts, but what I wasn’t given I worked my butt off to get.
As far as changing, in my time it’s been pretty much the same. Youth today are looking at a lot of the same circumstances / eventualities that I did as a kid. Only technology and medicine have made drastic leaps forward, but many things have stayed the same.
