what should i do over the last four years of highschool to attend a university like harvard?
Get involved in a lot of school activities, the more the better. Schools like Harvard look for leadership skills and joining groups like student government can help show them that you have what they’re looking for. Volunteering outside of school also would look great on your application.
Try to take as many AP classes as you can, as this will show them how you manage with higher level course work. Most schools also look highly upon work experience during school, this shows that you can manage your time and still do well in classes.
Study hard for the SAT and try to write an entrance essay that will make you stand out from other students. Thousands of people apply to colleges every year and so many of their essays sound the same. Try and really make yourself stand out from everyone else.
During your 4 years of high school, especially the last two, try and show your teachers that you are a hard worker, have good attendance and ask questions. If you’re involved in class then they are more likely to write you a good letter of recommendation (if the school requires them). Getting straight A’s and sitting in the back of the class without saying a word doesn’t really impress them as much as someone who has a B and speaks up and is involved in class. Admission committees know when a letter of recommendation is BS because it sounds generic. If you really make an effort your teachers will be able to write something for you to help you stand out.
