Who is the world’s most influential math mathematician? in your opinion?
I have to write an essay about a person that influenced math.. :/
I’m thinking more along the lines of Sir Isaac Newton, who is known as the ‘inventor’ of calculus, both differential and integral calculus. (He had a contemporary though who independently came up with the same ideas, last name Leibniz.)
But at any rate, Newton had all sorts of other insights into mathematics, like what is now called ‘Newton’s method’ of approximating roots of polynomial equations. He also came up with what are now called ‘Newton’s Laws’ of physics. These laws stood as THE foundation of physics for around 400 years ~ until a certain Mr. Einstein came along and saw a different truth.
I don’t really know of Einstein doing anything original with mathematics. I mean, he obviously UNDERSTOOD higher mathematics, but that was not his field of inquiry. His field was physics, I would say.
I mean, you hear of Einstein’s ‘Theory of General Relativity’, right? But that’s not a mathematical theorem; it’s a physics theory. Different field.
