Why is music notation so complicated?
In short, musical notation is complex because the music it notates is complex. For example, your proposed notation has + and – symbols to denote long and short notes. But what if you have a song that requires half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and “sixth” and “twelfth” (triplet) notes?
