Will I still get into college with B’s!?
I don’t understand, the entire year (10th grade) I got A’s…then right at the end they dinged me on finals and finished with 4 B’s and 3 A’s?! I really want to get into the University of Florida and am scared that these B’s could kill it?? Anyone elaborate?!
Don’t worry about this too much. The average incoming freshman at UF has a 3.7 GPA, which means that they earned some B’s. It also means that a significant number of students had lower GPA’s and were still accepted. What you really need to focus on is the type of classes you are taking. Make sure you are challenging yourself. Take AP and Dual Enrollment classes whenever possible. Study hard and earn high marks on your SAT and ACT tests.
It is equally important that you participate in extra curricular activities. You should be enrolled in band, art, a sport, two clubs, etc. (2 – 3 activities per semester). Hold down a part time job if possible, so that you can show the school that you are capable of time management with a full schedule. Participate in volunteer activities (earn about 200 hours total), social clubs, etc.
Remember that you are required to write an application essay. You should be prepared to explain lower grades during that essay.
Hope this helps.
