WHO WE ARE. The Sea Cadets was established by the Navy League of the United States at the request of the Department of the Navy in 1962 to “create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth”.

Sea Cadets is the UK’s largest maritime youth charity, established in 1856 and working in over 400 units with 14,000 cadets aged between 10 and 18. Cadets learn life skills like leadership and team working through nautical adventure activities, and can earn extra qualifications which give youngsters a head start.

- Copy of the Training Certificate and current photograph.
How old is a cadet?
least 12 years old
Youth members must be at least 12 years old and not yet 19 years old. Special school squadrons accept cadets under the age of 12 as long as they are in the sixth grade. You’ll know it’s a school squadron because the units have 800 series charter numbers.

What is the largest sea cadet ship?
The USNSCS Grayfox (TWR-825) is currently the largest ship owned by the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. She is homeported in Port Huron, Michigan and is used by the USNSCC for shipboard training. The USNSCS prefix stands for “United States Naval Sea Cadet Ship.”
