Can a doctor text you?
It is okay for a doctor to send text messages to a patient, provided that the message complies with the “minimum necessary standard” and the patient has been warned of the risks of communicating personal information over an unencrypted channel.
Can a hospital text you?
Your health and care organisation (e.g. GP, hospital, social care provider) may use email and text messaging to contact you with: Appointment reminders. Appointment letters. Individual invites to screening, medication reviews, vaccination appointments.
Can you reply to GP texts?
If you have received a text from your GP asking you to respond using a link, you should be able to use your phone to do this if you have internet access on your phone. (Note: you won’t be able to reply back to your GP via text, you’ll need to use the link highlighted in red in the image above to reply.)

Can I text NHS?
We’re testing sending more messages from NHS services to some users. It’s a convenient and secure way to receive appointment reminders and other messages that you might usually get a different way – for example, through text messages or letters.
Are emails included in medical records?
Any time your electronic communications are in regard to a patient’s care then they should be part of the patient’s medical record.
