Can you store a guitar in a gig bag?
Generally speaking, the safest way to store a guitar is in its case—ideally, a good-quality hardshell, as opposed to a gig bag or ill-fitting chipboard case. As obvious as this might seem, if you have multiple guitars, don’t stack them one on top of another in their cases.
Do all Taylor guitars come with a bag?
We’re one of the only manufacturers that provides a carrying case with every guitar we sell and includes it in the price of the guitar. All guitars made at the El Cajon factory (300 Series and up), plus the 200 DLX Series (made in our Tecate, Mexico factory) ship with a Taylor hardshell guitar case.
Do I need to keep my Taylor guitar in its case?
Unless you’re humidifying your guitar with a case humidifier, or have small kids or pets running around that may knock it over, it’s perfectly fine to leave a guitar on a stand instead of keeping it in a case when you’re not playing it.
Does a gig bag protect a guitar from humidity?
A porous gig bag will likely leak out the humidity over time, allowing your guitar to dry out. A quality hard case will seal it in and preserve your guitar from the ravages of drying out. So you may find that a hard case is best for long term use, but a gig bag can be helpful when it’s more convenient.
Should I loosen the strings on my guitar?
Thankfully, loosening the strings on your guitar is not really necessary, and is something you should only consider if you’re storing the guitar for longer than 6 months. While frequent detuning does not really provide you any benefit, over time it may cause damage to your guitar’s strings, nut and neck.

Can you humidify an acoustic guitar in a gig bag?
Re: Maintaining humidity in gig bag Obviously you can do it. However, for ease of maintenance and peace of mind, I would purchase an inexpensive hard-shell case and keep it inside a hard case when it needs to be humidified. Likewise, you can keep the humidity down easier in the hard case as well.
Should guitars be stored flat or upright?
How should you safely store your guitar? Hard cases are the best protection for storing guitars, and you should avoid keeping them near heat sources, extreme cold, and humidity outside the 30-70% range. Store them upright and centrally in your home. For long term storage release the string and truss rod tension.
