The importance of having good communication skills cannot be stressed enough to students and adults of any age. If you are a student, and you are having difficulty understanding the importance of education – it may be that your interests lie elsewhere. You may be more of a “social butterfly” or you may have dreams of becoming an entertainer. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that and that is where your communication skills will benefit you heavily throughout your life.
While some of us may prefer being alone and being independent there is a value that comes from communication with others. There are two sides to having communication skills: listening and sharing. When you listen to others, you are actually benefiting yourself. Relationships and having connections in general is quite important when it comes to getting the type of job that you want. If you cannot communicate with a teacher, student, bank teller, landlord or boss, then you cannot share who you are and what types of qualities you have.
You wouldn’t have the opportunity to stand up for what you think is right, and you wouldn’t have the opportunity to regain contact with a person that you had a conversation with not too long ago. With communication comes advice, empathy, strength, truth, diversity and everything that you need to grow. It doesn’t matter your age, and it doesn’t matter the confidence that you express. There are different ways to communicate with people and when you can learn to do so in a way that is progressive in your life then you will find that communicating can change the world itself.
“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” – Anthony Robbins. When we can communicate with others with a sense of understanding and compromise then we will achieve more than we ever would with avoiding communication to avoid fear and war. War comes from verbal and active insecurities that we have. Without any insecurities then we would not have greed and a narrow mind.
We would be accepting of the indifference in other people, and the way that they view the world. Communication skills will only further you in life if you learn how to express them when you have questions, concerns, understandings and so forth. It is only going to take an anonymous strength and willpower inside of you to take the first step in communication. A beautiful relationship or idea could come from taking that first step.
You may gain the world from a single opinion, or you may gain a self-destruction. If another attempts to bring you down through communication, then think of it as an opportunity instead of a burden. That is then your opportunity to look at who they are, what their perception is and how you can gain strength from their words of destruction.
