Does the EJ257 have forged pistons?
For comparison, forged pistons for the EJ257 typically weigh in the 370 – 400 gram range depending on bore size and design. The wrist pins weighed the same for both motors.
How much HP can EJ257 handle?
400 whp
They will hold up to 400 whp (again as shown in our PPIHC car), but if you want to push up to or beyond that power level, a set of aftermarket H-Beam rods would be recommended.
Do STI come with forged pistons?
AFAIK no model STI has had forged internals.
Is the ej255 and EJ257 the same block?
The only difference between them was the turbo and intercooler set-up, and the tuning of the ECU.

Does the S209 have forged pistons?
The fact the S209 keeps the same 8.1:1 compression ratio as the Type RA means they probably share pistons. The forged pistons and rods provide a strong foundation for the power increases, which come courtesy of a larger turbocharger with a 65mm compressor wheel and a 56mm turbine wheel.
What is Type RA?
The STI’s Type RA suffix stands for Record Attempt, in reference to the highly modified WRX STI Type RA NBR that Subaru has trotted out to set lap records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and other challenging venues.

What material are The EJ257 Pistons made of?
All of the available EJ257 pistons are made from either 4032 or 2618 alloys. Both 4032 and 2618 alloys are superior materials compared to the OEM piston material in terms of strength and toughness. The 4032 alloy is about 12-percent silicon (2618 alloy has 0.2-percent or less for comparison).
How much alignment is off on an EJ257 engine?
With the EJ257 engine cases, the alignment of the main journals that support the crankshaft are never perfectly aligned. Typically, the alignment is off by about 0.002” with respect to the center of the engine looking down from a top view of its installed position. This misalignment may even be as high as 0.006” on some blocks.
Are all Subaru EJ257 engines made from brand new cases?
All of the EJ257 short-block and long-block assemblies sold through Cosworth Engineering were built from brand new engine cases. Hence, Magnus had the opportunity to see over 500 examples of what the Subaru factory produced.
What type of bearings are used in the EJ257?
Both case sides are machined or precision surface ground about 0.002″ (50 microns), before they are bolted back together for the line boring operation. We then target the smallest end of the factory spec to maximize the crush on the main bearings. This allows us to use any bearing made for the EJ257.
