How do you install wire thread inserts?
Thread the insert into the hole to the proper depth and remove the installation tool. When using a coarse thread screw insert, install the insert onto the installation tool until the tang hits the stop. By the very design of the insert, it will hold itself in place without the use of threadlockers.
What is a wire thread insert?
Wire thread Inserts provide a durable and permanent screw thread when inserted into pre-tapped holes. They enable you to produce strong, permanent threads in metals and plastics but are particularly useful for creating strong threads in softer materials such as aluminium, titanium and magnesium alloys.
How does a locking HeliCoil work?
These coils serve as a locking device by gripping the threads of the installed screw, effectively preventing the screw from loosening under vibration or impact. HeliCoil Screw Lock Inserts permit frequent removal and reassembly of bolts without appreciable loss of torque.
What’s better time SERT or HeliCoil?
After doing a bit of research it sure seems to me that the Time-Sert is the clear choice for a more full-proof ‘permanent” fix. The only advantage to a Helicoil I found, is that it is cheaper. Being in the industry for a little while I have seen time and time again, that cheaper is never better.
What are helical inserts used for?
Called by many names, such as screw thread inserts (STI) and helicoil inserts (from the Heli-Coil® brand from STANLEY Engineered Fastening), helical inserts are coiled wire inserts that are used to repair stripped threading and reinforce bolted connections. The coils are wider than the tapped hole.
What’s better than a Helicoil?
Time Sert inserts for head bolt applications are much thicker than the Helicoil brand. They are more like a solid metal bushing which is threaded on the inside and out. The Time Sert brand insert is installed with a special driver.
