This is just the strategy I took and I don’t claim it’s necessarily optimal, however it did work for me:
- Find songs you are intimately familiar with which begin with every chromatic note. If you can come up with multiple ones per note, even better.
- Play a random note.
- Try to guess what it is.
- Repeat many, many times.
